This book of Khulasoh is a summary of the tashwwuf books written by him himself. So the contents of this book are the essence of the science of tashawwuf by him, especially the discussion of science.

Khulasah at-Tashaniif Fi at-Tashawwuf itself means a summary of works in the field of tashawwuf. The works referred to are the books of Imam Al-Ghazali himself such as the book Ihya' Ulumiddin, Kimiya'as-Sa'ádah, Jawahir al-Quran, Mizan al-Amal, al-Qisthas al-Mustaqim, Mi'raj al-Quds , Minhaj al-Abidin and so on.

This book was then given to his students voluntarily as an answer to his academic anxiety. For the sake of greater benefit, this book was later translated into Arabic by Muhammad Amien Al-Kurdi asy-Syafie An-Naqasyabandi, author of the book Tanwir al-Qulub (a book which contains the Islamic trilogy: Aqidah, Jurisprudence and Tashawwuf).

What Al-Ghazali wrote in the book Khulasah at-Tashaniif Fi at-Tashowwuf is essentially part of the teachings of Sunni Sufism, namely the style of Sufism which is more oriented to moral piety (prophecy). It is not surprising that this book uses the istidlal dalaliyah approach (the use of authoritative arguments) as a theoretical basis, such as the hadiths of the Prophet and the traditions of friends.

This book is also popular as the book Ayyuha al-Walad, because the editor uses a lot of the greeting phrase "ayyuha al-walad" (O Ananda). This sentence indicates intimacy (emotional closeness) between teacher and student, like the relationship between father and son. It can also mean as a form of appreciation of the teacher to his students.

Sufistic advice taught by Al-Ghazali in this book, among others: 1. The significance of studying the Sunnah of the Prophet as a barometer of truth; 2. Prohibition of being busy in things that are not of positive benefit; 3. It is difficult to practice advice and it is easy to give advice; 4. The importance of success in investing in good deeds; 5. The need for the synergy of science and charity; 6. The urgency of muhasabah in every action; 7. The importance of sincerity (intention) in learning and charity; 8. Integration of mind, soul and behavior in life; 9. Future reorientation (ukhrawi) in every action; 10. Consistency in qiyamul lail; 11. Priority of substance and quality in worship and charity, and others.

Viewed from the perspective of educational psychology, it seems that these Sufistic suggestions can be divided into three categories: first, intellectual abilities, namely intelligence of thinking. Thinking is a characteristic of humans that is different from other creatures, such as contemplation of the universe, muhasabah, meditation in disasters.
