City Soundscape is an app for collecting sound and noise measurements by using the built-in microphone of your Android-based smartphone. It allows you to evaluate the loudness and nuisance of the urban environments you live in thanks to two widely-used indicators of noise exposure (Sound Pressure Level and Equivalent Continuous Sound Level).

By using this app, you can also participate in extensive and collaborative noise measurement campaigns across your city and region. Your measurement contributions will be used to create useful acoustic maps which will help city managers and policy makers in defining effective noise abatement interventions and proper sustainable mobility policies. By registering to City Soundscape community, you will be allowed also to enrich your measurements with comments about sound sources and perceived noise levels.

Additionally, the app plays a significant role as an educational driver for scientific curricula, since it provides students with a straightforward tool capable of behaving as a Sound Level Meter, thus allowing them to be engaged into acoustic metering sessions and to experience how to perform an acoustic measurement correctly.
