Truckers need to find places to stop using methods that are efficient and distraction-free. The danger of distracted driving is compounded by the requirement for a truck driver to balance several tasks near the end of a shift. Truck Specialized Parking Services (TSPS) has created a mobile app that acts as an information source for the truck driver in a way that does require the driver to physically manipulate or provide location input to the app.

As the driver is moving down the road, the app screen updates continuously with what stops are available directly ahead of the driver. If parking information is available (currently, along I-94 in Michigan) then the number of spots and trend of availability is shown on this screen.

By tapping a stop, or by using the voice commands, (e.g. “Stop 2”) the detail for a particular truck stop can be brought up.

Truck stop details include fuel prices, available amenities and, if supported, the ability to reserve a spot. The ability to call the truck stop is also provided. If the detail page is navigated to via voice commands, the details will be read aloud with no need to lose focus on the road. The main screen can be shown by the voice command “Back.”
